More than Money
At Scottish Police Credit Union, we’ve always believed in doing MORE.
More support. More protection. More care for our members.
Doing more for our members.
Where you are a member, not a number. It’s personal with SPCU, we’re here to support the police family.

Why do we believe in doing more?
We believe in doing more for our members because we are more than just finance. It’s people helping people. There’s so much more to your credit union than just money.
Your membership includes more than access to savings and loans. Our products come with built-in protections at no additional cost to our members. We believe that everyone should have access to free, impartial and confidential money advice services, so we created one.
Our SPCU Foundation is here to support our members and their communities by helping you fundraise for causes that are important to YOU.
We’re here for every stage of life, not just the easy ones.
We believe membership should mean having someone in your corner focused on helping you. With the current cost of living challenges and pressures, it’s good to know that help and support is available. If assistance is needed, always remember – we’ve got your back.
With us, your money is protected - but more importantly, so are you.
We understand the unique nature of policing and are conscious of the protections that may be needed by those working within the police service. That’s why we’ve automatically included additional protections in our products and services, so that members don’t have to.
Our instant access savings account not only benefits from our performance driven dividend but also includes Life Savings Cover up to £1,000 on your savings balance. This protection continues through the lifetime of the account, for those aged 65 and over it’s based on the lowest balance from their 65th birthday.
Our loans include Sickness Absence Cover that may pay your loan if you’re signed off for 4 months or more due to accident or sickness.
Our loans also include Loan Protection Cover, which is designed to help pay off the remaining balance of a loan should the worst happen and pre-existing conditions are covered as well. We’ve included this to stop any additional worry or concern around debt transferring to your loved ones.
We're honest about money.
Borrowers want transparency around finance and the flexibility to overpay or repay early without paying penalty fees. With us, you won’t incur any additional fees or charges; you can overpay or repay early and save interest.
Many other providers advertise using Representative Rates, they often appear like a good deal however they may not be the rate you receive if your application is approved. Providers using Representative Rates only need to provide the rate they expect to be offered to at least 51% of applicants. There is the chance that you will be offered a rate higher than the one advertised.
A significant number of people accept this as they have undergone a credit check and believe it’s the only rate available to them. At SPCU, we don’t use Representative Rates, the rate advertised is the one that you’ll pay if your application is approved.
With other providers your initial loan repayments may also be used to repay the expected interest through the term of the loan upfront, rather than also reducing the capital that’s been borrowed.
In comparison, every payment made to SPCU loan reduces the capital and covers the interest incurred for that month which is calculated on the reducing balance.
When life gets tough, we don't turn away - we step in.
Life and finance can get tough, often caused by factors outwith our control. It’s good to know that help and support are available. Remember, there is always a solution.
We understand that everyone has their own individual challenges and that they often need free, independent, confidential advice or counsel.
At SPCU, we don’t use AI, operate from scripts or have call centres, we listen. Our team is on hand to support our members.
We offer a free, confidential support around debt and finance where you are connected to someone who understands and cares about achieving the right solution for you.
We also provide a free Specialist Money Advice Service in conjunction with the Scottish Police Federation (SPF) and delivered through Citizens Advice Bureau (Motherwell & Wishaw). This service helps with more than just money worries – there is support for housing, energy, disability and benefits, and so much more.
We are focused on providing you with help, allowing you to take control and achieve an individually tailored solution that meets your needs rather than organisational gain or profit.
The Scottish Police Credit Union Foundation.
Not only do we support our members and the police profession, but we also believe in helping people and improving our communities. Our Foundation has donated over £50,000 to community projects in the last 10 years.
We continue to invest in our communities to make things better and provide a helping hand to those who need it when they need it most.
When you join the SPCU family, there’s a one-time £5 setup fee taken with your very first payment. While most places use this as an admin fee to cover account maintenance, we do things a little differently. Instead of keeping it, we donate your £5 straight to the Foundation – meaning your very first act as a member directly funds vital police fundraising initiatives and local community projects.
Further information on the Foundation and how to apply can be found here.
